Beyond Phnom Penh: Chubmet Art & Music Festival, Siem Reap

If you’re looking for an excuse to get out of the capital, now’s the time to take a trip up to Siem Reap for the city’s biggest annual cultural event.

Right now it’s the opening weekend of the Chubmet Art & Music festival, which brings together many of Cambodia’s favourite musicians and bands for two weeks every year. The festival kicked off with a huge party on Friday, and last night saw thousands of people join the giant puppet parade through the streets before heading to the after-party in Royal Gardens, where Cambodian pop acts Nikki Nikki and Kmeng Khmer took to the stage.

Take a look at some of the photos from last night’s celebrations here:

Gutted you missed the opening? Don’t be – there’s still time to catch some great music and art in the city.

The festival runs until 2nd March, with performances from some awesome local talent including Kampot Playboys, as well as Grammy-winning British singer Joss Stone. Even better, many events are free. Click here to take a look at the festival website for full listings.
