World Cup 2022 Qualifier action in Phnom Penh as Cambodia take on Hong Kong in group C.
Cambodia faces Hong Kong as its first group opponents on Thursday, 5 September, at Phnom Penh’s Olympic Stadium. Then, on Tuesday the 10th, Bahrain comes to the capital for the second Cambodian fixture. Both matches kick off at 6.30pm.
After a comfortable 4-1 win (over two legs) against Pakistan, Cambodia secured its qualifying group spot for the World Cup in 2022. Iran, Iraq, Bahrain and Hong Kong join the Kingdom of Wonder in Group C.
Cambodia currently ranks 170th in the FIFA world rankings, with Hong Kong in 139th place. Iran currently sits impressively as the 23rd best national team in the world, according to the rankings, putting them as clear favourites to top the group.
Tickets for the game are available at Olympic Stadium for 5000 riel, and currently the Cambodian home football shirt is on sale at $11 (down from $22). Unlike other football tops in the city, you’re unlikely to spot the national jersey in the markets or street stalls, but you can find it at premium stores such as the Pro Kit Soccer Store (Street 199).
