Khmer New Year Mini-Weekend Roundup

Staying in town over Khmer New Year? Don’t worry, we still have SOME hot tips for you for this weekend

Friday

What’s On Screen

With all your friends away, you will need to find somewhere socially acceptable to be on your own. Looks like the dark, air conditioned oasis of the cinema it is! From 8.30pm allow Guillermo del Toro to be your mate and go catch the critically revered Shape of Water, at the Flicks.

What’s On Stage

If you decided to stick around this weekend then you probably wanted a chilled one. We have Mirasol and Stan over at Alchemy to kick things off from 8pm. ‘The Voice and Guitar’ as they have become known, will perform their usual blend of jazz, blues and soul. You can have a few drinks, nod your head, miss your friends and long for Kep.

What’s On Late

Club love will be celebrating all weekend long. From 10pm the 278 favourite will have DJ Knight taking the decks until 4am.

What Else

Cloud will be hosting traditional Sangkran celebrations from 6:30pm. Expect traditional New Year games, dance, BBQ and of course water fights in the beer garden.

Saturday

What’s On Screen

At 4pm The Flicks will be screening In Search of Fellini. The film tells the story of Lucy, a small-town girl from Ohio, who discovers the delightfully bizarre films of legendary filmmaker Federico Fellini and sets off on a journey across Italy to find him.

What’s On Stage

As always you can rely on ‘The Best Damn Bar in Town’ to keep the city alive with Rock n Roll. Oscar’s New Year Band will be taking the stage from 10pm to bring in the New Year the only way that they know how- with a big rocking party!

What’s On Late

Our pick for the weekend would be the KNY party over at Rokku. From 8pm, Phnom Penh Hip Hop legend 12ME will be taking the mic. His support will be coming from Morno, San Sok Srey, DJ Niko Yu, Lina Bong and San Srey Sok, to help bring in the New Year with the best Hip Hop the city has to offer.

The party is still going over at Club love, with DJ Alex Matt taking the decks from 10pm.

Pontoon is hosting its New Year celebrations from 10pm- which really just means it will be open as usual.

Slim pickings this weekend, eh? Never fear, next week will get back to normal! Keep an eye on our full listings here.
