The Hedonist Guide To The Weekend Ahead

Friday

What’s On Screen

Hotel Mumbai screens at 8:15pm. The film, based on a true story,  looks at the devastating Lashkar-e-Taiba attacks on the city back in 2008.

What’s On Stage

Comedic Stylings returns to the Box Office from 7:30pm. The free event will play host to Nghia Ma and Nghia Ma just arriving on the Giant Ibis from Vietnam.

Tonight kicks off the latest production from the Phnom Penh Players. The Great Theatre of The World is a Baroque play by Spanish author Pedro Calderon de la Barca. All profits sales profits go to the Sovannaphum Arts association who create opportunities for khmer artists to make a living through their work. The show time tonight is 7pm on St.166. Get your tickets at: The Box Office, D2 Smokehouse, YK Art House, Mang Miguel Kainan and Trattoria Bello.

Cloud are going big tonight with the Cambodian Queen of Punk. Vartey Ganiva and Dock Chkae take the stage from 8pm and, if you haven’t seen her before, you are in for a big treat. Check out the interview we did with the local legend a while back here.

What’s On Late

Fancy adding a little mystery to your Friday night cocktails? Seekers is hosting a masquerade evening from 9pm. Time to get a little dark.

Saturday

What’s On Screen

The Beach Bum screens at the Flicks from 8:15pm. Sometimes all you want from a Saturday night is some low-brow comedy about weed. We get it.

What’s On Stage

Futures Factory hosts some old school Khmer flavour on stage from 5pm. Arome Khmer bring their blend of Cambodian 60s rock to your Saturday night.

Want something weird and French in your ears? Well Cloud has the night for you. From 7:30pm, Heeve Del’Akreuz and his tromblo-accordion covers some classic French accordion music. If you know, you know, I would imagine.

The show time for The Great Theatre of The World tonight is at 6pm and again at 8pm.

What’s On Late

Club Love gives way to some of Korea’s finest DJ’s from 9pm. DJ Moobek and DJ Accia are bringing some top quality mixes that only come from years of honing their craft on some of the biggest stages such as the The World DJ Festival and the Summer Wave Festival with Will.I.Am and Ludacris.

 

Sunday

What’s On Screen

Where Hands Touch screens from 4:10pm at the Flicks. Amma Asante’s hard hitting romance explores the world of Hitler Youth in 1944.

What’s On Stage

The big one this evening is the concert on a boat from 4:30pm. Not only can you sail off from the weekend highs in style, you can do it while listening to one of the best hip hop performers in the Penh. 12ME, the French rapper who has fallen hard for Khmer culture, will bring hip hop to the boat in English, French and even Khmer.
