What’s On… The Menu
It’s December 1st and that can only mean one thing: we’re officially allowed to start getting excited about Christmas! Raintree takes the lead on this with a gorgeous Christmas market, opening tonight, where there will be festive treats, cocktails, a live band, and dozens of excellent stalls to browse for gifts. More info here.
Not fussed about Christmas? Celebrate the fact that it’s the first Friday of the month, instead – which means it’s time for TGIF at Kingdom Taproom. For $8, get all the delicious craft beer you can drink – and for $13, you also get a burger from Strokeye’s Meat Shop too (although sadly, the veggie option appears to be no more). The What’s On Phnom Penh team had a sneaky taste of Kingdom’s latest creation this week – a creamy, Christmassy stout – and it was bloody lovely. Premo Sounds provides the soundtrack (7pm – 11.30pm, Kingdom Breweries, National Highway 5).
In Tuol Tom Poung, too, it’s Craft Beer Weekend at Long After Dark. Today and tomorrow there will be beer tastings, four great small batch craft beers on sale, beer & whisky pairings and food specials (6pm-1am, St 450)
What’s On… Screen
An excellent choice for Outpost’s Friday film night tonight: the bizarre New Zealand documentary Tickled began as a quirky piece about “competitive tickling” but inadvertently uncovered a dark, sinister underworld that transforms the film into an uneasy thriller. (7pm-9pm, Outpost, Tonle Sap Road / next to the Sokha Hotel)
What’s On… Stage
Tonight’s Bassac Lane street party features a performance from the Riverside Ray Bans. With the rainy season seemingly done with at last, grab a cocktail and get ready to shake your stuff on the street (8pm-Midnight, Bassac Lane, St 308)
We were sorry to see the elegant Jazz Club close its doors on St 282 last month, but the team’s new venue, Jazz Club Elite, launched this week – and will continue to showcase world class performers as ever. Tonight, Miserable Man graces the stage, performing reggae and calypso (7pm-2am, St 315)
After a characteristically rock’n’roll performance at last Saturday’s Diamond Moon Festival, Phnom Skor frontman Tinn is taking things a little more gently with an acoustic set at Tacos Kokopelli. With draft beer & tequila shots $1, you might get a little more rowdy, though (7pm-10pm, St 19z).
In Toul Tom Pong, solo guitarist Graham Cain blends music and comedy through as set spanning hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s (8pm-11pm, St 123)
Elsewhere, No Strings Attached play Duplex (9pm-1am, St 278), Jeff Sleeman is at Botanico (7pm-10pm, St 29), Boxchords perform on FCC Rooftop (8.30pm-11pm, Sisowath Quay), funk rock band WILDFLOWERS play Oscar’s On the Corner (9.30pm, corner St 13 & 104) and Stiff Little Punks thrash it out at Sundance Inn (9.30pm, St 172).
What’s On… Late
DIB throws another of its legendary rooftop pool parties in Koh Pich tonight. City Jungle features DJ Jazzie C and DJ Saint Vincent on the decks, alongside light painting by Alias 2.0 (5pm-1am, DIB Club, Koh Pich).
At Show Box, DJ B.O, Shanghai’s #2 DJ and self-described Elvis enthusiast (yes, you read that right) hosts a rock’n’roll themed party (8pm-11pm, St 330)
Devastated that MadHouse shuttered up last weekend? Don’t be: it’s pretty much just moved next door. Saint Vincent, Moudy and Disc Joshi play the late night launch (2am-6am, St 172)
And DJ Sushi Firas, DJ Heka and Crappy Beats are all just down the road at Pontoon Pulse (11pm-4am, St 51)

(6pm, Flicks 1, St 95. Tickets $4)
