Where to Go for NYE in Phnom Penh (and Beyond)

We round up the best New Year’s Eve parties in Phnom Penh, including street raves, live music and firework-watching spots.

The global car crash that was 2017 is all but over, and all we can say is: thank f*** for that. Here’s our roundup of the best places to celebrate in the ‘Penh.

SUCH JOY

Live Music

If you missed Hypnotic Fist Technique giving a fricking amazing performance as headliners of the Diamond Moon Festival, don’t you fret: the boys from the beyond are playing Tusk on NYE – and your $15 ticket includes all the booze you can swallow. Expect epic things. More info here.

Or, catch the excellent Cambodian Space Project at the FCC Mansion – one of the city’s most spectacular venues – for a great gig of classic hits and brand new material, fresh from their world tour. More info here.

Street Parties

Rather be outside? You have two massive street parties to keep you entertained tonight.

The first is at Jet’s Container Market, where up-and-coming bands from Cambodia’s Seila music label will rock the stage all night. There are also performances from dance troupes, fire dancers and top DJS. More info here.

The second is old favourite Bassac Lane, where NYE’s special street party features a gig from chirpy pop-rockers the Box Chords. More info here.

For the Fireworks

Our top spot for watching fireworks over the Mekong this New Year’s Eve has to be Le Moon Terrace Bar. At $25 ($20 in advance), tickets are on the pricey side – but there’s live music, DJ sets, one free beer… and spectacular views. More info here.

Best of the Rest

Alchemy’s free-entry, tropical-themed NYE bash is set to be one of the biggest parties in Phnom Penh, with all-you-can-eat BBQ, live painting by Alias 2.0, beats from DJ St Vincent and DJ Malo, free shots and free flow bubbles & tapas from 10pm-11pm. More info here.

Or, if a foodie feast is more your thing, Chinese House is going all out this year with a South African-style braii and lamb spit roast, as well as a lavish dinner and boozy party late into the night. More info here.

Leaving Town?

Fancy fleeing the fumes this NYE? Our top tip would be to head down to Kampot, where there are raves aplenty… as well as a heartrendingly beautiful jungle-by-the-river backdrop to help soothe your aching head come January 1st.

NYE parties to look out for in Kampot include the legendary bash at Naga House and the top rave next door at Banyan Tree, where Phnom Penh’s own DJ Moudy and Disc Joshi are on the decks.

Wherever you wind up, booking accommodation ahead is essential – rooms fill up fast this time of year!

So, farewell 2017. In the words on Vinnie Jones:

it's been emotional.gif
