Rambutan – Falafel Burger
Falafel patty topped with mango chutney and salad garnishes
$5.75, served with a side of fries
Hailing from a city consumed by gourmet burger chains, I’ve grown accustomed to craving pimped-up patties. In this series, I hit the streets of Phnom Penh to sniff out the very best burgers on offer.
The Burger Joint
Rambutan is a swanky hotel nestled down street 71, with a poolside restaurant on the ground floor.
One of the advantages of eating here, is that any customers spending over $7.50 are allowed to use their swimming pool – which even has a slightly covered area to hide under during rainy season!
Daring to be different, I decided to abandon the usual choices of beef or chicken options and opted for the Falafel burger instead. Paired with mango chutney this creation also comes topped with a suspicious but delicious gooey white topping (Tzatziki perhaps), giving a nod to a real mixture of middle eastern flavours.
On the Side
The burger comes served with a portion of seasoned fries, topped with fresh herbs. An accompanying ketchup dip features too. The fries were light and fluffy in texture, not as crispy as I usually prefer them, but each to their own!
The accompanying pool was much more my reasoning for the order.

A nicely stacked burger arrived, looking chunky and appeasing to my rumbling tum. The large dollop of mango chutney definitely overpowered the taste, with a great sweetness in every bite. The Falafel itself was cooked well, melted in my mouth and combined with the bed of lettuce and bumper bun. The bun itself was quite chunky, meaning I felt fully satisfied of my hunger after demolishing the portion.
I wasn’t nuts about this one, perhaps revisiting for their beef option will change my opinion. The mango chutney was delicious but the balance of flavours seemed overpowering I’d give the falafel burger 5/10 – yet still recommend a visit to Rambutan as their pool is glorious, the staff super friendly and atmosphere blissful..
