Every year on the 21st of June, France celebrates ‘Fête de la Musique’. Buskers need no licenses and noise limitations are removed as musicians flock to venues, beaches, street corners and beyond. It’s a lovely occasion to unite a country under the harmony of (mainly) free music offerings.
Phnom Penh still retains a lot of French influence, culture and citizens, so it is unsurprising that the city will feature it’s own nod to the special date.

It’s an extravagant venue to host the event, and dare we say it’ll be ‘magnifique et sophistiqué’. The Phokeethra Sky Venue, at the top of Sofitel, sets the scene for the talented musical duo of Jennifer Bird (flute) and Miwako Fujiwara (piano).
We’re promised music from the likes of Debussy, Satie, Gaubert and Ravel, as well as others. The 21st lands on a Friday this year, so we know there’s going to be a lot of choices competing for your attention, so it’s pleasing to see that there is a matinee performance available too for those unavailable in the evening.
