How Best To Skip The Turkey This Xmas

We’ve shortlisted some of our favourite eco-friendly menus for the holidays! Merry Christmas!

We’ve been inundated with sponsored adverts for Christmas dinners galore around the city, but one quirky curiosity this year has been the meat-free menus. Whilst most restaurants don’t seem to consider the rising vegetarian and vegan population of the city, some faithful haunts have prepared choice picks for your perusal.

Here are some of our favourites:

For the flex-itarians and mixed groups

Long After Dark (Street 450, TTP) offers an intimate, decorated venue, full of Christmas year and premium products. Their extensive food menu always offers thoughtful vegan and vegetarian choices and Christmas continues this.  Available both Christmas eve and Christmas day.
3x courses + 1x glass of French sparkling for a very merry $18.50.

Veg Option: Roasted pumpkin & lentil salad with feta cheese and tahini dressing, followed by a roasted vegatable welling and all the trimmings, finished with a house made blueberry cheesecake with crushed oreo biscuit base and raspberry coulis.

For the Vegans

Firstly, TTP stalwart Vibe (Street 446, TTP), are throwing a vegan buffet Christmas lunch between 12pm – 3pm on Christmas day. Booking is essential for the $25 deal, with a glass of prosecco included.

– Cauliflower Mac and cheese
– Roasted pumpkin and cacao mole with toasted buckwheat
– Spiced cabbage slaw
– Roasted potatoes with rosemary and sea salt
– Coconut bacon
– Chickpea quiche
– Chocolate truffles
– Boozy Christmas cake with custard

Secondly, we previously championed the Vegan $1 Brunch Club at Bong Bonlai (YK Art House, Tonle Bassac)– and they’ve surprised us once again. For a humble $6, they’ve set up a light Christmas meal that conjures up the holiday spirit. They have special opening hours during Christmas week:  7:30 am – 2:30 pm and 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm (EXCEPT Thursday 26th, breakfast only: 7:30 am – 10:30 am).

CLASSIC menu – $ 17.99

For the animal lovers

Finally, we couldn’t help but smile at the thought of friendly non-animal food enjoyed in the company of friendly animals. Ministry of Cat (Street 442, TTP) offer just that, and who knows, you may just end up adopting your new best friend…  The 3 course plant based meal costs $15 per person, running Christmas Day from 11am until 3pm, and includes the first glass of wine of prosecco. We featured it here.
