Between 7000-8000 human beings were executed in one week in July of 1995. Bosnian, Serb and other forces took part in the mass murder of several thousand Bosnian Muslim prisoners in the Republika Srpska town of Srebrenica in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A massacre that the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia has proved beyond a reasonable doubt to be an act of genocide.
Thursday, 11th of July marks the 29-year anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide and META house will be commemorating the occasion that evening.
First up will be a screening of Quo Vadis, Aida? – a film following the story of Aida, a translator for the UN in the town of Srebrenica during the genocide.
Following the showing of the film, Nejra Lilić will be holding a reflective session discussing her own personal experience as a survivor of the Srebrenica genocide. If you heard her Nerd Night talk a few weeks back on genocide and intergenerational trauma then you will know that few people understand these issues better and even fewer can speak on them with such powerful clarity.
The event begins tomorrow from 19:00 at META House on St. 228
